16 Boko haram suspects and their
collaborators have been paraded by the
27th military task force brigade in Yobe
state, North-East Nigeria.
Acting commander of the task force, Colonel
Dahiru Bako said the suspects were
arrested from different locations across the
state.
He added that some of the Boko Haram
suspects were arrested shortly after
carrying out an operation on the outskirt of
Damaturu, that killed 2 villagers.
Others were nabbed as collaborators and
informants of the insurgents.
The army has also handed over 4 foreigners and 124 Nigerians, detained in connection with the sect, to Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State. The handing over took place in Maiduguri, and was performed by the chief of Army staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai. Buratai said the 128 persons were found innocent after thorough investigation, jointly carried out by intelligence officers of the Army, Police, Department of State Security and representatives of the Borno State Government. Troops have also intercepted and arrested some major drug suppliers of Boko Haram terrorists. The couriers who supply the insurgents with hard drugs and other stimulants, were nabbed between Depchi and Geidam, in Yobe state. According to a statement by army spokesperson, Colonel Sani Usman, the suppliers were arrested by troops of the 3rd Division on Tuesday, while searching cars and cargoes. Those arrested usually supply fuel to the insurgents, in addition to hard drugs, such as Cannabis, Chloroform substance and Tramol, amongst others. The Nigerian Army added it would continue to do its best in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, in order to make Nigeria safe and secure. Meanwhile, the Multinational Joint Task Force is yet to deploy troops to the frontline, even as the Nigerian troops step up ground and aerial bombardment of Boko Haram targets in Sambisa forest. A total of 8,700 Troops are to be contributed jointly by Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Benin Republic. Nigeria's Defence Spokesman, Colonel Rabe Abubakar, told a news conference at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, that the troops will soon be deployed, but didn't say exactly when. He was optimistic, that with the ongoing offensive, the military will meet the 3- month ultimatum issued by President Muhammadu Buhari.
