Former Senator Dumps PDP For APC

A former senator, Chief Azu Agboti, who represented Ebonyi South Senatorial zone in the National Assembly yesterday resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and joined the All Progressives Congress, APC. Agboti claimed that one of his major reasons for dumping PDP was the failure of the present governor to honour his commissionership appointment promise, among other positions.
Although, Agboti, in a letter to the state’s Chairman of the party, Joseph Onwe, simply noted his resignation without giving any reason. He said: “It is with sincerity of purpose that I hereby resign my membership of the PDP. My resignation takes effect immediately.” But a source close to the former senator, who was Director of Governor Dave Umahi’s Divine Mandate Campaign for Afikpo North Local Government Area, said he left the party because he was disappointed over recent events in the party. “He is not happy with the inability of the party to keep certain promises made to him before the election. “His candidates for commissioner and other appointments were jettisoned. He was frozen out in the party since after the election hence his decision to move to APC, which has promised to carry him along,” the source said. Another source in APC revealed that they are ready to welcome Agboti just as they urged members to trust and believe in the party. The source said: “Many stakeholders who were not appointed or their list of candidates jettisoned feel betrayed and are in talks with the APC to defect. “Any moment from now they will officially make their decision open; some other members are ready to join us.” Onwe in his reaction stated that the defection of Agboti can never threaten the unity, peace and progress of the party in the state.
