Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command
have arrested and detained the driver of the
truck conveying a container that fell off the
bridge at Ojuelegba, Surulere on Wednesday,
killing three persons.
The three victims were trapped inside a black-
coloured Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) when the
container fell on it, while a fourth person who
was driving a white-coloured Nissan car escaped
death by the whiskers as he quickly jumped out
before the container fell partially on his car.
Daily Trust gathered that the Divisional Police Officer of the Surulere Police Division, CSP Monday Agbonika, effected the arrest of the driver of the trailer. The fallen container, the two affected vehicles and the front part of the trailer had since been towed off the road to enable ease of movement of other motorists. Police sources told our correspondent on Thursda that the trailer driver identified as Wasiu Adeleke, was arrested for driving the MAN Diesel truck with registration number EPE 46 XK recklessly, resulting in the truck and the 20-ft container it was conveying, falling off the bridge. The container was loaded with cement and armoured doors at the time of the incident. Apart from the SUV, other vehicles that were damaged in the incident were a black Toyota Corolla with registration number SD 532 CN and a white Nissan Sunny saloon with registration number DG 750 LND. The container was evacuated from the top of the SUV after hours of sawing through the iron frame of trolley belonging to the truck. It was then that the bodies of the three male occupants, including the driver, were recovered.
