The Kenyan National Assembly resumes on
Tuesday, but an impeachment motion
against President Uhuru Kenyatta will top
the agenda of legislators.
Kenyatta's offence is non other than the
ongoing teachers strike. And some
lawmakers want the president sent home
for ignoring a court order to increase the
teachers’ salaries by 50-60 per cent.
ODM’s national chairman John Mbadi is planning to table that motion before the 349 lawmakers. But majority Leader of the National Assembly Aden Duale has vowed to file a vote of confidence in the President to counter the proposed impeachment. The impending political battle has got Jubilee and CORD leaders forming alliances to gain favour with the 288,000 striking teachers, who form a sizeable voting bloc, and whose opinions are respected in rural areas where they hold influence.
