Saraki Accuses Tribunal Of Acting Under External Pressure

President of the Senate Bukola Saraki has accused the Code of Conduct of tribunal of acting under undue political influence and external pressure by ignoring a court order. He said this in a statement issued on his behalf by his special adviser on media and publicity Yusuph Olaniyonu.
Senator Saraki explained that he chose to proceed to the courts to determine the competence of the prosecutor because he felt that his fundamental rights are about to be infringed upon. The Senate President noted that he chose to go about his normal official schedule based on a a court order that all parties in the case should appear before it on Monday September 21. He also expressed surprise that in spite of assurances by his counsel that he would show up on Monday, the tribunal insisted on issuing a warrant of arrest just to embarrass him. Saraki described the tribunal’s conduct as an abuse of rule of law and a bad precedent but maintained that he would not do anything to undermine the judicial process.
