2 Suspected Robbers Hide Gun Inside Loaf Of Bread, Police Parade 68 Other Suspects

Two suspected armed robbers were, at the weekend, arrested within the Port Harcourt metropolis, Rivers State, with a loaded gun hidden inside a loaf of bread. The two male suspects, Ezekiel Godwin Ukpong (24) and Ability Mike Loveday (27), were arrested during a stop and search exercise conducted by the police at the Abali Park/ Isaac Boro Park axis of the state capital.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Musa Kimo, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on the activities of the police under his command, in Port Harcourt, on Monday. The suspects were said to have been flagged down in a Nissan Sunny car, with registration number PBT 789 PQ, along with two other occupants who however escaped. The police commissioner said the car was, however, impounded, along with the arrested armed robbery suspects who were paraded before the press during the briefing. The police commissioner also disclosed that about 68 other people had been arrested for their alleged involvement in sundry crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery and cultism. Also displayed during the parade of the suspects were caches of arms such as AK- 47, locally made pistols, double barrel gun, single guns, English-made pistol and Baretta pistol, 84 assorted ammunition, 17 cartridges as well as 15 suspected stolen vehicles. Kimo said the Rivers police command was able to foil series of kidnapping and also arrested suspected cultists and armed robbers due to an improvement in response to distress calls. The Rivers police boss, represented by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ahmad Muhammad, also attributed the success recorded so far in crime-fighting to the support the command received from the people of the state.
