Tribunal Sacks APC Ikechukwu Amuka Install Nkechinyere Ugwu

The election petition tribunal sitting in Owerri, the Imo State capital has annulled the election of Ikechukwu Amuka (APC) member, representing Ideato South constituency in the State House of Assembly. The tribunal also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately issue certificate of return to Mrs. Nkechinyere Ugwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the election.
Delivering the judgment, Justice P.I. Idong, ruled that Amuka, presented a forged West Africa Examination School Certificate (EAC), results to INEC to contest the April 11, election. While directing INEC to issue Ugwu with a certificate of return, the tribunal also ordered the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly to immediately swear-in Ugwu, as the genuine winner of the April 11, state legislative election for Ideato South. Appraising evidences and submissions, the court noted that the photography on the original WAEC results tendered and by deposed by the APC candidate belonged to one Kevin I. Amuka, who attended St. Peter Claver Seminary, Okpala. The court stated that after comparing the picture and the physical appearance of Amuka, it was clear that the picture on the result did not belong to the APC candidate. It however declared that the actual winner of the election is the PDP candidate and therefore should be sworn in immediately.
