Nigerian Troops Capture Top Boko Haram Commanders

More positive results are coming in from Nigerian troops battling the so-called Boko Haram Islamist militants. The army says two top members of the group have been apprehended in Geidam, Yobe State, north-east of the country. That's according to army Spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman in a statement on Thursday. He adds that two pick-up vehicles were also seized from the fleeing insurgents. The terrorists are currently being interrogated.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force is conducting air surveillance and armed reconnaissance in Damasak, Yobe state. This follows reports of suspected movements and planned attack by Boko Haram terrorists around the area. Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has reaffirmed his conviction to see to an end the insurgency in the country. Speaking during a meeting with the Chadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Musa Mahamat, Buhari disclosed that the end of Boko Haram is near as the war against the terror sect is at its peak. In his reaction, the Special Envoy of the Chadian President said President Deby appreciated the leadership being shown by President Buhari in the war against terrorism, and beyond the number of troops earlier announced, Chad is still ready to commit more soldiers.
