Senate under my watch ‘ll prevent loopholes in implementing govt programmes – Saraki

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has said the Senate under his leadership will work to prevent loopholes in the implementation of government programmes and projects. He also said the legislature would put in place a comprehensive systems aimed
making the revenues of the country to meet the needs of the people. Saraki, who spoke Thursday, in Abuja, when the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle, paid him a courtesy call, promised that the National Assembly would work on legislation that would sustain an investment friendly atmosphere with a view to bringing the country out of the current economic doldrums. He said: “With the much abundant resources embedded in the nation, we are confident of the fact that we will meet the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians from all facets of life.” assured that the oversight functions of the National Assembly would be strengthened “in such a way that there will be no room for loopholes in implementing government plans and projects.” He said: “We will put in place comprehensive systems to make of our revenues meet our needs. Our oversight functions would be strengthened in such a way that there will be no room for loopholes in implementing government plans and projects.” The Senate President told the visiting US Ambassador that Nigeria would continue to be attractive to investment opportunities. “I can assure you that Nigeria will continue to be attractive to investment opportunities. We have the human capital and with our younger generation steadfastness, training and development, our much needed goals would be achieved. He extolled the cordiality between Nigeria and the United States of America, USA, saying the visit of the US ambassador was not only apt but also came at a time the nation was preparing to re-address most of the challenges militating against its developmental goals. Senator Saraki, while highlighting the challenges impeding the progress of the country, ranging from epileptic power supply, insecurity, unemployment to revenue leakages, affirmed that the present administration was concerned about the well-being of Nigeria. “This 8th Senate have the mandate to give to Nigerians the dividends of democracy, ”he boasted. Earlier, the US Ambassador had assured the Senate President of adequate cooperation and support in the areas of insecurity, powers supply, human empowerment and investment opportunities. Entwistle expressed great hope about the future of Nigeria, saying: “I am optimistic about the future of this country especially when I meet young Nigerians. Their energy, their zeal and prowess indicate that Nigeria will be great.”
