Nigerian military are tracking the sources of funding for the operations of Boko Haram terrorism.
Rear Adm. Gabriel Okoi, the chief of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), said the agency was taking steps to trail the funds being used to commit the operations of the terrorists inspite of the difficulties built in the system.
He said while the banks made it hard for such funds to be efficaciously trailed, efforts were being made by the agency in that direction, PM News reports. Okoi told this to reporters briefly after the closing ceremony of the Deputy Defence Advisers/Attaches and Librarian training conference in Abuja. “I think we should expect that we should have positive results from that end, we are doing something about it. It is not that we are not doing anything about it,” he said while answering about the influence of the conference on the founding Boko Haram sponsors. “We are doing something about it. It is just because of the system we have in Nigeria and the banking system does not allow you to really go into much of those things. “They have been empowered now; we have given them all they need, we told them how they should go about intelligence gathering, so we expect positive results from them.” Meanwhile, the army has apprehended Boko Haram sponsor in Bauchi. The soldiers from 33rd Artillery Brigade arrested Aliyu Hussaini, who pretended to be a serving general in the army.
