Police Nab Housewife For Alleged Sale Of Baby For N1.5m In Delta

Police detectives in Asaba, Delta State, have
arrested a housewife identified as Elizabeth
Okolie in Okpanam community for allegedly
selling her baby for N1.5 million.
It was reliably gathered that the woman,33, a
trader in one of the markets in the area,
allegedly sold her baby when the purported
father refused to accept the paternity.

Commissioner in the State, Alkali Baba
Usman confirmed that the detectives acted
on a tip off and arrested the woman on her
way to Benin City after she had allegedly sold
the baby to an unidentified buyer.
The police boss said that the woman, upon
interrogation, made useful statements to the
police, adding that the police detectives have
gone after the buyer of the baby.
Family sources said that the woman, a
secondary school drop-out, escaped with the
man she claimed she had been married to
and she immediately got pregnant. She
delivered a baby girl when the bubble burst.
But the Police Commissioner said “We
arrested the woman through useful
information that the baby she put to bed three
months ago was sold to an unidentified buyer
when she had quarrels with the man she
claimed to be her husband and the man
denied the paternity of the child. We have
made frantic efforts to bring the buyer to book
and our men have gone after the buyer while
the woman is currently in our custody helping
the police with investigation, the man she
claimed to be her husband denied paternity of
the baby”.
Meanwhile, an Okada rider, whose name
could not be ascertained as at the time of
filing this report was on Tuesday allegedly
murdered by yet unidentified gunmen in
Amachai quarters, Okpanam community.
Senior police officers at the Okpanam police
division who did not want their names in print
said that the corpse of the Okada rider was
deposited in the state mortuary .
